East Sooke
offers an amazing coastal trail which will take you to sandy beaches, rock faces, petrogryphs (ancient native art), and to Beechy head where you have a clear lookout of the Olympic mountains across the Juan de Fuca strait. We will do a moderate circuit hike, where we’ll take time for an awesome lunch. Your guide will tell you all you want to know about the scenery, wildlife, flora and fauna. The 5 hour trip includes transportation, your guide and a tasty lunch.
This hike can be longer if interested; we can do the whole trail including lunch in 7 hours and be picked up on the other end! Please call to request a longer hike. $105/5 hour tour.
Sooke Potholes
are large bowls carved into bedrock by water and boulders that rushed down the river as the glaciers were melting. Today we are left with various pools that are excellent for a refreshing dip, and many trails for exploring. The potholes also hold an old structure which hangs over the tallest cliff with lookouts of the river below. Exploring is my specialty so more extensive hikes can be done if interested!
$110/5 hour tour.
Tree Eye
is local nickname for a hidden gem known as Sand Cut Creek. The creek flows down obvious volcanic riverbed and falls ten feet into the ocean. We start with a short hike on a locally maintained trail that runs over the ridge and down to the beach. A stroll down the beach will bring us to the creek where we will sit on the edge of the waterfall and have lunch.
$115/5 hour tour.
China Beach
is located just outside of Jordan River on the West Coast road. We hike through the rainforest down to a real taste of the rugged west coast. The beach itself holds a beautiful waterfall to admire when the tide is out, and a hidden cabin built out of driftwood and natural resources. We’ll find hundred year old trees, eagles, fresh rivers and a stretch of west coast beach to call our own for exploring. You guide will carry in lunch for a picnic on the beach and don’t forget to ask about the story of Cougar Annie!
$120/6 hour tour.
Mystic Beach
is the next beach along the Juan de Fuca trail and begins at the same trail head as China. This trail is a little less than an hour’s hike through the rugged and serene western rainforest, over a suspension bridge and down the steps of one of our fallen giant trees. The beach offer waterfalls, caves, and numerous places to sit and eat a gourmet lunch prepared for you. Your guide will tell you about the migrating whales. You can observe eagles in flight, ancient trees and a taste of the open Pacific Ocean.
$120/6 hour tour.
Bear Beach
is another local favourite. This is truly a ridge trail, down an old logging road and in bear territory! This is an adventure of all sorts. The beach attracts local surfers and holds a ginormous boulder in the shallow water. Many different types of volcanic rock are found here as well. Relax and have a picnic in one of the many camping spots up on the bank. Bear trip includes transportation, your guide and picnic lunch. $125/6 hour tour.
Sombrio Beach
is a favourite of the locals and holds a history not quite like the other beaches on the West Coast. Sombrio has awesome freefalling and hidden waterfalls. It has caves, pre-historical bugs, three beaches to explore, and a fresh water river that can be crossed by tree or suspension bridge. Only a 15 minute walk through the giant trees, ferns, and moss will get you from the daytrip van to the west coast beach. Your guide will tell you all about the plant, sea and wild life you see around you, the mountain range in the distance, and some well known stories of a time when Sombrio was home to a community of people.
$125/7 hour tour.
Botanical Beach
is the last accessible beach before you reach the West Coast Trail in Port Renfrew. It’s the end of the line of the West Coast road and very well known for its many tidal pools. When the tide is at its lowest here, you can explore many different sizes and shapes of tidal pools, each with its own ecosystem of sea life. Hike the 15 minutes through the edge of the rainforest to experience the open ocean air in your face. Explore and observe the wonders of nature and sea life while your guide tells you about the tides, the trees, and the sea around you. You will get to relax and explore while a gourmet lunch is prepared for you to picnic with on what feels like the edge of the world.
$130/8 hour tour.
